Facilitating lychee purchase for domestic, export markets

Bumper crop

Phan The Tuan, deputy chairman of the Bac Giang People’s Committee, said that thanks to favorable weather conditions and strict control of coded growing areas, this year’s lychee quality is the highest ever. He added that lychee output this year is estimated at about 180,000 tonnes, including 60,000 tonnes in early harvest and 120,000 tonnes in the main season.

Tuan said Bac Giang Province attaches great importance to both domestic and foreign markets. The whole province plants 218ha of the fruit in 18 coded cultivation areas, aiming at exports to high-standard markets, such as the EU and the US. It also produces about 1,800 tonnes for export to Japan in 30 growing areas granted codes. He emphasized that at the beginning of 2022, the provincial people’s committee issued a plan to promote the sales of lychees and other agricultural products in domestic and foreign markets.

Bac Giang lychees are currently in harvest season. Highlighting the motto “Producing, processing and consuming high-quality and superior lychees and ensuring food hygiene and safety”, the province is committed to creating the most favorable conditions for businesses and traders in lychee purchase.

Support for market expansion

Bac Giang Province has asked the Ministry of Industry and Trade to support the connection to domestic and foreign businesses and traders in order to promote consumption of fresh lychees and its processed products, as well as the negotiations with foreign markets to facilitate lychee exports and the sales of lychees on e-commerce platforms.

The province has also asked ministries and departments to support the application of drying and processing technologies so that post-processed lychees still retain the fruit’s flavor, color and quality, as well as create favorable air transport conditions for exporters.

Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai said the Ministry of Industry and Trade has always provided support for the locality to promote the sales of agricultural products in both domestic and foreign markets. The ministry will continue to strengthen demand-supply connections, promote advertisement and keep up-to-date with information about policies, standards, regulations, and consumer tastes of export markets, Hai said.
